Description
A patacón (in Spanish) is a traditional Latin American dish made from plantains. Plantains are a type of banana that are larger and starchier than the typical sweet banana, and are typically cooked before eating. To make patacones, the plantains are peeled, sliced and then fried twice until they become golden brown and crispy. They can be served as a side dish or as a base for other foods like meat, fish, or poultry, they can also be served as a snack. They are a popular food in countries like Venezuela, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica, and Nicaragua.
Patacones can be served with different toppings or fillings such as cheese, avocado, and meat, or even topped with a traditional Colombian chicken, beef or pork stew known as “Bandeja Paisa” . They can also be used as a base for other traditional dishes like “patacones con queso” (patacones with cheese) or “patacones con aguacate” (patacones with avocado).
